Introduction

The "Backup" interface in a user's cPanel allows you to generate and download full or partial cPanel backups. The partial backup options include the entire home directory, databases, email forwarders, and email filters. There is no option to generate a backup for a site. However, "File Manager" can generate a backup of a site's files and folders, and "Backup" can generate a backup of a site's database(s). This article explains how

Procedure

1. Log into the user's cPanel account.
2. Open the "File Manager" application in the "Files" section of cPanel.
3. Navigate to the folder in which the site's document root resides. 
4. In the file list, scroll down until you see the site's document root.
5. Right-click on the line for the site's document root.
6. Select "Compress" from the pop-up menu.
7. Select the desired archive type to generate from the "Compression Type" options.
8. Enter the name of the backup file in the "Enter the name of the compressed archive and click Compress" textbox or leave the default name.
9. Click the "Compress Files" button.
10. Review the contents of the "Compression Results" window for errors.
11. Click the "Close" button.
12. In the file list, right-click on the backup file's line.
13. Select "Download" from the pop-up menu.
14. Wait for the download to complete.

The following steps must also be completed if the site has a database.

1. Click the "cP" icon in the upper right corner of "File Manager" to return to the user's cPanel.
2. Open the "Backup" interface in the "Files" section of cPanel.
3. Scroll down to "Download a Database Backup."
4. Click on the site's database.
5. Wait for the download to complete.
